The Progressive Policy Institute (PPI) and Common Good invite you to a public forum on Capitol Hill Thursday, November 16, 2017. The discussion is intended to rekindle a sense of political urgency around modernizing America’s run-down infrastructure, and figuring out how to pay for it. Although leaders of both parties have called for a major infrastructure push, the White House and Congress have instead put other, more divisive issues front and center: ACA repeal and tax reform. One reason is President Trump’s realization that public-private partnerships cannot at present come close to financing the massive rebuilding project he promised during the campaign. Our forum will drill down on critical questions: First, what is the real potential for tapping private capital to pay for infrastructure upgrades, and what kinds of projects are best suited to public-private partnerships? Second, how can we reduce construction and regulatory costs to rebuild America without breaking the bank, and will tax reform eat up the resources required to fund better infrastructure?
