Roma are the largest ethnic minority in the European Union, with an estimated population of 12 to 15 million.
The Helsinki Commission will host a conversation with Swedish Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Soraya Post, one of only two Roma in the EU’s 751-member legislative body.
MEP Post has spearheaded efforts in the European Union to address the situation of Roma. She has drafted a report on improving the situation of Roma that will be discussed in the European Parliament in late 2017. The OSCE was the first international organization to explicitly recognize the human rights situation of Roma.
