Samuel D. Brownback is the United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom. He received his B.S. from Kansas State University and his J.D. from the University of Kansas. From 2011 to 2018, he served as the 46th Governor of Kansas. He also previously served as the Kansas Secretary of Agriculture, U.S. Representative for Kansas’s 2nd congressional district, and U.S. senator from Kansas. As Senator, he sponsored the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. Prior to his public service, Ambassador Brownback was a private attorney in Kansas and taught agricultural law at Kansas State University.
