Citizen Engagement in America’s History
How does an individual amplify their single voice? How does one thought become a rallying cry? Come join us for this cross-generational, bipartisan discussion about how citizen movements have influenced – or failed to influence – policy makers. Our diverse panel will feature prominent leaders from the Civil Rights and National Right to Life movements, students engaging in grassroots organizing on gun violence, and journalists covering political change in the era of social media. Former Members of Congress will join the discussion detailing how in their careers on Capitol Hill citizens were able to change their thinking on a specific issue. Our conversation will not showcase what makes these issues divisive, but rather focus on the nexus these issues share: the importance of civic engagement and education.
