Dear Colleague:

By now you should have received an invitation to a staff briefing on active transportation presented by the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals in coordination with the Congressional Bicycle Caucus.

Over the last decade, the United States has seen a significant increase in people bicycling and walking for transportation. Throughout the country, communities are investing in the biking and walking networks and innovative infrastructure to improve safe
and accessible transportation options. The following speakers will present on the trends, challenges, and opportunities for improving safety, accessibility and planning for bicycling and walking in our transportation system:

  • Toks Omishakin—Vice Chair of AASHTO’s Council on Active Transportation; Deputy Commissioner and Chief of Bureau of Environment and Planning, Tennessee Department of Transportation
  • Shari Schaftlein—Director, Office of Human Environment at the Federal Highway Administration
  • Byron Rushing—President of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals; Bicycle and Pedestrian Manager, Atlanta Regional Commission

Refreshments will be provided at this widely-attended event. Please don’t hesitate to contact Jon Bosworth (Jon.Bosworth@mail.house.gov) in my office if you have any questions.
