It’s time once again for the happiest summertime event on Capitol Hill: Our annual Paws for Celebration. On Wednesday, July 11th, from 11:30am to 1:00pm, we’ll be hosting some local shelters and rescues, along with lots of adorable, adoptable animals.
This event coincides with the launch of Meow for Now, the ASPCA’s exciting new campaign to encourage participation in kitten fostering programs. To inspire more people to foster, we have joined with hundreds of participating shelters across the country – including one in your district – to provide vital fostering information and tools. If you have room in your home for a kitten in need—even for just two weeks—we hope you’ll consider taking this step.
Invited guests this year include Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Vern Buchanan (R-FL), co-chairs of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus; Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Thom Tillis (R-NC); and our favorite special guest, former Senator Bob Dole.
We are proud that these ASPCA-hosted Paws events are among the most highly anticipated and most popular bipartisan gatherings on Capitol Hill for Members and their staffs.
The mission of Paws for Celebration is to:
- Recognize and honor the staff and volunteers who make a positive difference for animals in need every day at shelters and rescue groups across the nation.
- Showcase some of the many special dogs and cats who have so much love and joy to give, and who desperately need that special someone – maybe YOU – to give them that chance.
We hope that you, your colleagues, and your boss will join us to share a little puppy (and kitten) love, celebrate the life-saving work of shelters and rescues, and maybe connect with that special animal destined to be your BFF!
