Economic Opportunities for Puerto Rico & U.S. Hispanics

  • 2043 Rayburn House Office Building (map)

#GrowPR

Join The National Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce andCongresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón (PR)for a discussion on the opportunities for economic development in Puerto Rico & Hispanic communities across the U.S., as well as the policies that will help the island to grow.

*Lunch will be served!*

SUMMARY

Hispanic unemployment has fallen to rates nearly on par with the general population, small business confidence is at record highs, and Hispanic entrepreneurs continue to serve as catalysts to our nation’s growth - but there are still numerous areas in which we can improve, especially in relation to the economically devastated territory of Puerto Rico. While policymakers have had the best of intentions, some have inadvertently impeded economic development opportunities, creating a need for policies that encourage business growth, investment in our communities, and a new model for Puerto Rican prosperity.

DISCUSSION

Experts will discuss existing legislation and proposals while offering analyses and alternative solutions related to policies that impact Hispanic business growth across the U.S., as well as those that directly affect the local economy within Puerto Rico, including:

Entrepreneurship as an economic driver · Infrastructure capital requirements & investment opportunities · Next-generation telecommunications networks as catalyst to growth · State of manufacturing in Puerto Rico, value to economy, and potential ·Blockchain as driver for improved governance/capital attraction ·Impact of telecommunication policies on disaster-affected regions · Austere policies that compel economic growth · High technology impact on economic growth and legislative priorities to advance
