A Briefing Series Inspired by Sustainable Development Goal #5: “Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls”
Join Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tex.) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) for the sixth event of a briefing series exploring each element of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #5, “Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls.”
- Joanne Antoine, Manager, State Outreach and Engagement, Common Cause Maryland
- Dr. Laura Hinson, Social and Behavioral Scientist, International Center for Research on Women
- Gwen Young, Director, Women in Public Service Project and Women’s Leadership Initiative, Wilson Center
SDG5 seeks to enhance the use of enabling technology – especially information and communications technology – to empower women and girls. Yet technology can both promote and inhibit women’s participation in public life, particularly in the context of politics and elections. Join us as we hear from practitioners, organizers and researchers on how technology can engage and connect women; can help us gather data and act on violence against women; and should be considered by U.S. policymakers.
There will be opportunity for Q&A. Light refreshments will be served.
