Removing US Legacy Ordnance Abroad

  • 2103 Rayburn Houise Office Building (map)

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of the bipartisan Congressional UXO/Demining Caucus, we are pleased to invite your staff to a briefing on the foreign policy, humanitarian, and human rights implications of Removing US Legacy Ordnance Abroad. This briefing will be held on Thursday, January 31st from 10-11am in Room 2103 of the Rayburn House Office Building. From Asia and the Pacific to Europe, communities still face the threat of explosive hazards left behind by the U.S. in past conflicts on a daily basis. This briefing will discuss where U.S. legacy ordnance remains, the impact it has on communities, and what the U.S. is actively doing to fulfill its obligation to remove the ordnance it has left behind. Coffee and pastries will be provided in accordance with Congressional Ethics rules. Please RSVP here:https://bit.ly/2MoTr84

Endorsed by several humanitarian organizations, the Caucus advocates for the support of life-saving programs that protect communities and serve U.S. security, economic, and political interests abroad. The Caucus has a global interest, as U.S. UXO and mine removal programs have been implemented in more than 100 countries since 1993. Current operations span 45 countries, including in Afghanistan, Angola, Armenia, Cambodia, Colombia, Iraq, Kosovo, Laos, Sri Lanka, Syria, and Ukraine.

To join, please contact Laura Wilson (laura.wilson@mail.house.gov) in Rep. Johnson’s office or Heather Melançon (heather.melancon@mail.house.gov) in Rep. Speier’s office.

Sincerely,

Bill Johnson
