Transgender 101 Briefing

  • 122 Cannon House Office Building (map)

Dear Colleague,

We invite your staff to a briefing entitled Transgender 101 to be held Friday, February 22nd, at 9:30am in 122 CHOB. It will be led by Alexander Roberts, the workplace inclusion manager at the National Center for Transgender Equality, who works to ensure safe and inclusive environments for transgender workers. Alexander will bring his expertise and share best practices with Congressional staff in working with transgender constituents.

The Trump Administration and state governments across the country have put forward policies openly hostile to transgender Americans. From bathroom bills to the Administration’s ban on transgender servicemembers, these policies seek to invade every aspect of their lives. All of us have transgender constituents, and we hope to share information that can help staff to understand transgender constituents’ concerns and effectively represent them.

This briefing will explore common terminology, basics for interacting with trans people, tips for being an ally, and moving from ally to advocate.

For questions, please contact Alejandro Oms with Rep. Haaland at Alejandro.Oms@mail.house.gov or Qais Roshan with Rep. Kennedy at Qais.Roshan@mail.house.gov.

We hope to see you there!
