The Talent Pipeline: Aligning Higher Education & Employer Needs for Student Success

  • SVC-215, Capitol Visitor Center (map)

Today’s higher education students require pathways that allow them to seamlessly move to and through postsecondary education and the workforce, support lifelong learning, and meet their needs. Even more, today’s students and younger workers are changing jobs as many as four times by age 32. But current federal policies date back to a time when most students went immediately from high school to college upon graduation, and workers stayed with one job or company for the entirety of their career.

As the worlds of work and education are shifting, are higher education and employers aligned when it comes to student success? How can federal policymakers learn from successful state efforts to form these partnerships?

Join Jan Yoshiwara, Executive Director, Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges, Scot McLemore, Manager of Talent Acquisition, Honda North America, Inc., and Sydney Martell, LEDA Scholar, for a policy briefing moderated by Goldie Blumenstyk, senior writer at the Chronicle of Higher Education, on the ways higher education and employers can work together for increased student success and to hear what leaders in the field are doing to bridge this gap.
