Highly-radioactive nuclear waste from commercial nuclear power plants and defense programs is stranded at 75 sites around the country with no path forward. Correcting this situation requires a Reset of present U.S. policy and law. Members of the Reset committee will discuss the recommendations from the Reset Report (HERE).
Rod Ewing is the Frank Stanton Professor in Nuclear Security at the Center for International Security and Cooperation, and School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences at Stanford University. He served as Chairman of the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board from 2012 to 2017.
Saida Engström is the Vice President for Strategy and Programmes at SKB, the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company. She started her career in the Swedish Nuclear Inspectorate as a safety inspector of nuclear installations in Sweden and went on to lead the feasibility studies to select a site for a final repository for spent fuel in Sweden.
Allison Macfarlane is Professor and Director of the Institute for International Science and Technology Policy at the George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs. She served as the Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission from 2012-2014.
Dan Metlay is currently a Senior Non-Resident Visiting Scholar at the Institute for International Science and Technology Policy at the George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs. He recently retired after 24‐years of service on the senior professional staff of the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board.
