11:450 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Capitol Visitor Center, Room HVC-201 A&B
As the House and Senate look to reauthorize the Higher Education Act, the American Youth Policy Forum (AYPF) and MDRC are pleased to host a timely and thought-provoking forum on Capitol Hill entitled: College Promise: Supporting Students in College Access and Success.
Community college students can face various obstacles on the road to achieving a postsecondary degree. These challenges include tuition, the cost of books, and a lack of support on campus. However, a new movement is taking hold aimed at helping students start and complete their college education without taking on mountains of debt: College Promise Programs. This forum will examine the impact of College Promise programs as well as MDRC’s College Promise Success Initiative (CPSI), which addresses both affordability and student supports such as campus coaching and summer engagement. The forum also will highlight new evaluation results from the Detroit Promise Path, a program that adds student support services onto an existing scholarship.
Presenters will include:
Martha Kanter, Executive Director, College Promise Campaign
Alyssa Ratledge, Research Analyst, MDRC
Monica M. Rodriguez, Manager, Detroit Promise Path
Katie Berger, Professional Staff Member, House Committee on Education & Labor
Other Congressional staff invited
Lunch will be provided to those who register. We hope to see you there!
